- In the first 9 months of 2017, Viet Nam’s
export turnover to the US amounted to nearly 31 billion USD. Eight commodity
groups of which export turnover to the US market reached over USD 01 billion include:
garment and textile (9.25 billion USD, increasing 9.5% from the same period of
2016); shoes (3.76 billion USD, increasing 13.7% from the same period last year)
(according to Viet Nam Customs).
- In the first 9 months of 2017, Viet Nam – South
Korea trade turnover amounted to 45.09 billion USD, surging 87 times in 20
years. The figure is expected to reach 70 billion USD in 2020 (according to the
report at the Seminar on “Supporting Vietnamese Enterprises in the Viet Nam –
South Korea Free Trade Agreement implementation” on October 17, 2017).
- In the first 9 months of 2017, Viet Nam’s
total shrimp export reached 2.5 billion USD, an increase of 21.9% over the same period of
2016. In terms of market, export to the EU increased 32%; to Britain increased
46%; to the Netherlands increased 47% and to Belgium increased 34% from the
same period last year (according to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters
and Producers).
- By the end of August 2017, Singapore has
1.918 valid projects with register capital of more than 41.38 billion USD, ranking
3/122 in the list of countries and teritories investing in Viet Nam. On the
other hand, Viet Nam has 93 projects in Singapore with total register capital
of 235 million USD, ranking 12/72 in the list of countries investing in
Singapore, with focus on oil and gas, mining, retail, service, IT, logistics
(according to the Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Planning and
Investment).
- An ago-fishery controlling system project
named “Aevisor – Farmtech” won the first prize at the IoT Startup Viet Nam competition
2017, organized by Saigon Hi-Tech Park Incubation Center on October 14, 2017 in
Ho Chi Minh city. Other 04 consolation prize were given to: the Aquaculture Pond
Supervision and control System; Farm Factory team; IoT-Agriconnect Automatic Mushroom growing house; and the Smart
Algae team – Smart Seaweed growing system.

News:
- Viet Nam’s five
universities which have been listed in the Ranking of Best Asia Universities in
2017 include: Viet Nam National University (144/250), Viet Nam National
University Ho Chi Minh City (142/25), Hanoi University of Science and
Technology (139/250), Can Tho University (301/350), Hue University (351/400)
(according to Quacquarelli Symonds Organization).
- Four Vietnamese Universities
have been recognised for the first time by France’s High Council for Evaluation
of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) for meeting the international
standards including Hanoi University of Technology, Da Nang University of
Technology under the Da Nang University, the University of Technology under the
Ho Chi Minh City National University, and the National University of Civil
Engineering. HCERES’s criteria of evaluation are strategy and governance,
training and scientific research, the training process and vocational integration
directions, foreign relations, management, quality and ethics./.
